From July 1 to July 31, 2026, a window was opened on the GSTN portal to correct the Aggregate Annual Turnover for the 2025-26 fiscal year. The tax authorities will check the corrected data from August 1 to August 15. For Indian companies with discrepancies in reporting, this is the last opportunity to adjust the figures before they are automatically blocked in the system.

Total annual turnover is a key indicator in the Indian GST system, which affects a number of practical implications for businesses: the applicable registration threshold, the mandatory electronic invoicing, the availability of simplified tax schemes, and limits for participation in certain preferential categories. The error in this indicator is not a technical detail, but a factor affecting several regulatory decisions at once.

The GSTN portal calculates the AATO automatically based on the submitted declarations for the financial year. The problem is that the automatic calculation is not immune from technical failures, data duplication during the transition between tax periods, or unaccounted-for adjustments submitted late. It is to eliminate such discrepancies that the annual manual correction window opens.

The month from July 1 to July 31 is not a random date, but part of a rigidly structured calendar: immediately after closing the correction window, from August 1 to August 15, the tax authorities check the adjustments made. A company that does not have time to correct an error before July 31 remains with an incorrect AATO indicator until at least the next annual cycle, and any decisions that depend on this indicator in the interim are made based on incorrect data.

For Indian businesses, the practical recommendation is straightforward: check the AATO indicator on the GSTN portal with the internal accounting statements right now, without postponing until the last days of July. Special attention is paid to companies that have changed the tax regime, reorganized, or merged with other legal entities over the past financial year: it is in such cases that the risk of technical discrepancies in automatic calculations is highest.

Companies planning to switch to a different tax scheme or applying for preferential status depending on turnover should close the issue of AATO accuracy by the end of July, as their regulatory status for the entire next financial year will depend on it.
